Alcohol Checks on Turfsingel Yield Four Fines
On Boxing Day, police conducted a large-scale alcohol check on Turfsingel in Groningen from 8:30 PM to 3:00 AM. Approximately 400 drivers were tested, resulting in four fines for driving under the influence. The operation was carried out in collaboration with Veilig Verkeer Nederland, aiming to ensure road safety during the holiday period.
A similar check on Christmas Day in Hoogezand and Vries saw over 1,100 breath tests conducted, but no fines were issued.
Two Accidents on Zaagmuldersweg
Shortly before 11:30 PM on Boxing Day, two separate accidents occurred on Zaagmuldersweg in Groningen.
At the intersection with Klaprooslaan, two cars collided.
Further along, near Hortensialaan, a vehicle struck parked cars, causing additional damage to a motorcycle and another car.
No information about injuries has been released. Recovery vehicles were dispatched to tow the damaged vehicles.
Both incidents and the alcohol checks underscore the importance of cautious and responsible driving during the festive season.
