Bars Worth the Detour
Mr. Smith’s Loft
This amazing bar has all the vibes. Picture neon lights, plants everywhere, cozy exotic couches, and groovy music that flows from the speakers or a live DJ. Mr. Smith's Loft is where good drinks, great service, and even better conversations come together.
Jamey Fitz
Looking for a laid-back spot with a jazzy twist? Jamey Fitz takes you back to the 1920s with its swing vibes, classic decor, and monthly live performances. It’s perfect when you need a breather from the hustle — a little escape with style.
Café Lily
Wander beyond the canals and you might stumble upon Café Lily. With its soft lights and cozy vibe, it feels like a warm embrace. It’s a wonderful place to catch up, slow down, and take in Groningen’s quieter charm. I deeply enjoy being able to rediscover such gems in our vibrant Groningen.

Culinary Highlights in the City
Olijfboom
When studies get busy and the weather a bit too grey for my taste, a trip back to the tastes of Greece allows me to breathe again. Olijfboom offers hearty traditional dishes and a welcoming atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. It's a lovely spot to recharge.
Restaurant De Beren
If you’re in the mood for steak in a bright, modern space, De Beren strikes the perfect balance between casual and quality. Great for solo meals, date nights, or relaxed dinners with friends.
Werkman
When I hear someone say “Nachos”, I immediately think of the breathtaking presentation of the Nachos at the Window table at Werkman. The food is great, but what really makes it stand out is the view of the Grote Markt. It’s a reminder of how lucky we are to live and study here.

Explore, Recharge, and Create
Study Spot: Barista Café
Sometimes home or the library just doesn’t cut it. Barista Café hits the sweet spot between productive and peaceful. Whether it's rainy with foggy windows or sunny with bikes whizzing past, it's a great place to focus — with a caramel latte, of course.
Park Retreat: Oosterpark
When the sun finally shows up and you’re down to one layer of clothing, it's time for the park. Oosterpark is perfect for picnics, reading sessions, or simply wandering. It’s big, peaceful, and feels like a new discovery every time.
Cultural Hub: USVA
After study and self-care, cultural connection is key. Whether it’s poetry, music jams, or just soaking in creativity, USVA gives you a place to explore or perform. I’m honoured to take part in events there, and you might find your place too.
