Grand Openings for the New Southern Ring Road
Celebrating the completed Southern Ring Road and the upcoming Zuiderplatsoen park.
Now that the Groningen train station is finally open again for our newcomers, the approaching start of the university brings many festivities to celebrate the new southern ring road. The newest tunnels and roads are placed between Julianaplein and Europaweg
Next Saturday, on the 31st of August, hundreds of citizens will gather for a walk throughout the ring, and Martiniplaza is going to bring an informative market for it. The official opening of the entire road is planned to start on the 1st of September. However, the exciting news brings over a new park named Zuiderplatsoen, a new Noordenplantsoen ‘of the South’, connecting different parts of the city.
The park will include the office garden of the DUO building, together with more greenery landscapes and solar fields. The park will be ready in the following year, including the possibility to walk underneath it for 3 kilometers. As the city is growing with new students and visitors, such changes are pivotal in assuring more traffic accessibility and new green areas to enjoy.
More information can be found at the official site of the new southern ring and park, with an interactive map and construction details.
