Grote Markt Book Seeks Artists' Contributions
Municipality calls for Groningen residents - "What is your Grote Markt moment?"
The Grote Markt in Groningen is finally nearing completion after a lengthy construction, and the municipality is inviting residents of Groningen to take part in celebrating it. On June 1, the completion of the Grote Markt will be celebrated with the Jouw Grote Markt festival.
To mark the occasion, the municipality is crafting a book about Grote Markt, compiling its rich history, events and transformations over the years, and everyone is invited to contribute.
Share Your Grote Markt Story
Calling all residents of Groningen! Have you ever had a memorable experience on the Grote Markt? Whether it's a colorful fair, a winter or flea market, a public performance, a protest, or any other memorable experience, no story should be forgotten.
The book will contain a lot of history, information and what the Grote Markt was like over the years with many photos, drawings and other visual material. Contributions from ‘Stadjers’ and other Groningen residents are all welcome — “After all, it is also their Grote Markt,” the municipality says. Even if you’re not a born Grunneger, you can submit your story as well.
Submission Details
If you're interested in contributing, submit your story, which should be no more than 100 words, along with a photo or illustration to accompany it, to grotemarktboek@groningen.nl by June 15.
The municipality will select the stories to feature in the book, which is set to be published in December. This is your chance to leave your mark on the legacy of Groningen's beloved Grote Markt!
