Historic Footbridge at Groningen Central Station Restored
Starting next week, travellers at Groningen Station can enjoy smoother connections between platforms with the opening of the newly restored footbridge.
If you have been to other Dutch cities, you must have observed the modern infrastructure of train stations while waiting for your train to Groningen. Utrecht, Zwolle, Eindhoven, and the list goes on, soon to include Groningen Station as well.
ProRail promised careful preparation and many measures to ensure the replacement of the monumental footbridge to host more travellers.
The hosting of the new passage will take place next week from Monday, as it has been previously postponed. This action will not affect the work of the Groningen Central Station.
Furthermore, the restored signal box will be installed a day after the passage opens. These projects will include more sheltered places for the population at the station.
These two structures, the signal box and the roof passage, have existed since 1928, and two years ago ProRail ensured their restoration operation. The live opening can be followed through the ProRail webcam on their website.
