Major Accident on Noord Ring Causes Standstills on Multiple Roads Through Groningen
If you're planning to drive into the city today, you might want to think again. A significant accident has occurred on Ring Noord near Selwerd, resulting in a complete road closure.
The collision on the northern ring road, near Groningen, involved four cars and resulted in two injuries and a complete closure of the road for some time.
As a result of the accident, traffic has come to a standstill, with the congestion stretching over six kilometers and continuing to grow. Despite the inconvenience, drivers continue to queue up, exacerbating the situation. Traffic jams have spilled over into the city, affecting routes such as Eemshavenweg, Ring East, Damsterdiep, Stationsweg, Hereweg, and Eikenlaan.
However, one lane has now reopened, and authorities expect the traffic situation to improve gradually throughout the morning.
This disruption is particularly challenging as Ring Zuid is also closed due to ongoing renovations. Ring Noord typically serves as an alternative route for the thousands of motorists commuting into or through the city.
For those planning to travel, it may be wise to consider delaying your journey or finding alternative transportation options. With the current traffic conditions, navigating through the city by car is challenging, to say the least.
