Memorial Protest for Palestinian Children in Groningen on Sunday
Thousands of children's shoes will be displayed to represent all the lost lives in Gaza.
A memorial protest will take place on Sunday, July 21, at the Grote Markt in Groningen, organised by the Plant een Olijfboom foundation with local groups like Vrouwen in het Zwart, Groningen Jabalya, and students from Groningen. This event aims to honour and remember the children who have died in Gaza due to the war with Israel.
The protest will run from 12:00 to 17:00, featuring the placement of thousands of children's shoes to represent over 16,000 Palestinian children who have lost their lives. These children have died not only from bombings and snipers but also from diseases, cold, dehydration, and starvation. Some estimates suggest the actual number of deaths could be much higher.
During the event, well-known and lesser-known Dutch individuals will read out the names of the deceased children. There will also be performances by various artists to honour the children and call for an end to the ongoing violence and suffering.
The memorial highlights the severe conditions in Gaza, especially the famine in the north, which worsens the children's suffering. This protest is the eighth organised by Plant een Olijfboom, with the previous one held in the south of the Netherlands last month.
Everyone is welcome to join the commemoration, stand together against the violence, and bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
