No Trains to Assen This Weekend, Further Delaying Travel Plans
No train service between Groningen and Assen this weekend due to track work, buses will replace trains as ProRail upgrades part of the railway.
Train travel between Groningen and Assen will be disrupted this coming weekend, with no trains running on Saturday and Sunday. ProRail has announced that part of the track between the two cities is being renewed, and this work is not related to the ongoing renovations at Groningen Central Station.
To accommodate travelers, the NS will operate replacement stop buses between Groningen and Assen. Passengers can also choose an alternative route via Leeuwarden if they need to head south.
Meanwhile, the work on Groningen Central Station continues as planned under the broader Groningen Spoorzone project. As a result, Arriva trains to Veendam and Bad Nieuweschans will terminate at Groningen Europapark during the weekend. Travelers heading to Central Station will need to transfer to a bus from Europapark.
Trains to Leeuwarden, Delfzijl, and Roodeschool will continue to operate as normal until Friday, 13 June. After this weekend, additional changes may affect travel beyond 16 May, and passengers are advised to consult NS and ProRail websites for updated travel information.
