From AI dance to groundbreaking circus—Groningen’s biggest summer festival reveals its main programme as ticket sales open soon.
The Noorderzon Festival of Performing Arts & Society returns to Groningen from August 14 to 24, 2025, transforming the Noorderplantsoen and city centre into a hub of international art and culture. This year's 35th edition features an eclectic mix of performances, including AI-driven dance, groundbreaking circus acts, and thought-provoking theatre from around the globe.
A Diverse International Lineup
The festival's international main programme showcases artists from various countries, offering performances that blend technology, tradition, and innovation:
Alisdair Macindoe's "Plagiary" (Australia): A dance performance where ten dancers are guided live by an AI choreographer, exploring the intersection of technology and human movement.
Baro d'evel's "Qui som?" (France): A reimagined circus experience that combines physical theatre, live music, and visual art to create a poetic narrative.
Guangdong Modern Dance Company's "Burning Marches" (China): A dynamic dance piece reflecting themes of hope, resistance, and youthful energy.
Zoukak Theatre's "I Hate Theatre I Love Pornography" (Lebanon): A bold theatrical work that challenges conventional narratives and explores themes of identity and expression.
Additional performances include a dance walk through the city, immersive installations, and intimate stories addressing contemporary issues such as loss, power, and resilience.
Ticket Sales and Access
Tickets for the international main programme go on sale Monday, June 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM via the official Noorderzon website. The full festival programme will be announced in the following weeks, with general ticket sales starting on Monday, July 7. Festival Friends enjoy early access and discounts on tickets.
