During the night from Friday to Saturday, at least five vehicles parked at Noorderhaven were vandalised. According to the police, the vandals smashed the driver’s side windows of the cars between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. The culprits then fled on foot in the direction of Lopende Diep. It remains unclear whether any items were stolen from the vehicles. The police are actively seeking witnesses and video footage from the area to help identify the responsible individuals. Similar car break-ins have been reported in various parts of the city recently, including an incident in the Herewegbuurt where navigation systems were stolen.
In a separate incident, a suspect was arrested on Friday afternoon in connection with a series of phone thefts that occurred in the city centre between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. The police, alerted by prompt action, apprehended the suspect later in the afternoon. The stolen phones were recovered and returned to their rightful owners, except for one grey iPhone 11 with a cracked screen. The police are asking the owner of the remaining phone to come forward and reclaim their device.
The police continue to investigate both cases and urge anyone with information or video footage to come forward to assist in their inquiries.
