Schiphol and Groningen Airport Eelde Have Announced Plans to Collaborate and Exchange Expertise
Schiphol and Groningen Airport Eelde to join forces for sustainable aviation growth
Schiphol and Groningen Airport Eelde (GAE) have announced a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing route development and commercial real estate projects at GAE.
This initiative aligns with the outgoing cabinet’s vision for improved cooperation between regional airports and Schiphol. GAE, a crucial player in the Northern Netherlands’ economic landscape, seeks to boost its societal and economic impact, with a focus on sustainable aviation initiatives like hydrogen implementation.
Through this partnership, Schiphol will leverage its expertise and experience to support GAE’s growth and sustainability objectives.
Robert Carsouw, CFO and interim CEO of Schiphol, emphasizes the importance of cooperation among Dutch airports to optimize airport capacity and advance sustainability goals.
Schiphol recognises the societal importance of Groningen Airport Eelde and we'd like to help them keep and strengthen that position. At the same time, we are also giving substance to a wish stated in the Civil Aviation Policy Memorandum 2020-2050. We are in favour of a system in which Dutch airports cooperate as one system for the optimal use of airport capacity in the Netherlands. In this way, we can work together to make aviation more sustainable and continue to add value at a regional and national level.
Meiltje de Groot, Director of Groningen Airport Eelde, expresses gratitude for the collaboration, highlighting the opportunity for mutual learning and advancement in sustainable aviation practices.
With this collaboration we come one step closer to making optimal use of the limited airport capacity in the Netherlands. We are happy with the help we will receive within this collaboration from, among others, Schiphol's route development team. We can also learn from each other in the field of sustainable aviation.
This partnership will position GAE as the 'Hydrogen Valley' for sustainable aviation, with its 55,744 flight movements and 112,833 passengers transported in 2023, serving as a test and demonstration location for sustainable aviation.
