Siersteenlaan Groningen Closed Off, With the Police Allegedly Investigating a Suspicious Package
The Siersteenlaan in Vinkhuizen has been closed off by the police, who are heavily present at the site, likely in response to the reported suspicious package incident that occurred at 4 AM this morning. However, confirmation of the reason is still pending.
Police have been alerted to a suspicious object discovered near the Vikhuizen shopping centre. Surveillance footage indicates that the object was placed at the location around 4:00 am.
In the middle of the night, an unknown person placed a package in front of a building. The package was wrapped with tape and had an ignition on top. It was later discovered that the package contained a nitrous oxide cylinder (laughing gas).
A local resident stated that the suspicious package was the reason for the large police presence, but it is not confirmed as of yet, as the police spokesperson is currently unavailable. However, they are at the scene in large numbers to dispel any worries.
Another witness reported that they had been shopping and had returned to their car when they saw the commotion. They were advised to leave the area quickly due to the suspicious package, given it could have been a possible detonator.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been dispatched to assess the situation. The Siersteenlaan remains closed off, with the duration of the closure currently unknown.
