Congratulations! Absolutely no mention of who actually brought the violence to the protests in Amsterdam and Utrecht, no mention of the level of aggression the police has used against protesters, no mention of the actual demands of the protesters. You are framing these rules as a necessary evil and contribute to the vilification of people standing against apartheid and genocide.
When for the past months the university only took a neutral or silent stance after students tried to approach it within the established rules, protest is the only solution.
It's not our intention to overlook the significance of protesters' demands or the police response in the Netherlands. The intent of this article was inform readers of the new measures implemented by the University of Groningen in response to the demonstrations; the examples of Utrecht and Amsterdam were used to give a national context to Groningen's new measures in comparison with events in other cities.
We're committed to giving a voice to both sides of the situation, including the GSb's petition against the changes, and the university's misrepresentation of the approval process. Groningen Mail is committed to political neutrality and providing readers with information that is balanced and shows perspectives from both sides, especially in matters which mean a lot to our audience. While we strive to cover all facets of each story, the complexities involved mean we may not capture every perspective in every report. We're always trying to provide the best possible local coverage of matters from the area, in a way accessible to young people.
Thank you again for your feedback, and helping us improve Groningen Mail.
