Sometimes you just feel like a change of environment will finally motivate you to make those extra strides in exam preparation. This new list will help give ideas for places without a laptop fee.

The silence in your room sounds about right when exam season comes. Unless… your housemates throw a party or you suddenly feel like you have enough ingredients to bake a cake or something needs to be wiped. Trust us, as students, we know.

You then leave the house to the UB library, trying every floor to find a spot, and you leave frustrated and stomping that everything is full. What to do now?

We listed some more study spots that allow you to come with your laptop and prepare for free, along with a drink. A not-so-fun fact is that more and more places do not allow students to study or charge per hour besides beverages, but these are tested as safe.

UMCG

The student hospital offers a great deal of space and quiet surroundings when it comes to studying. After all, it is where our future doctors spend their time learning and studying. Its doors are wide open, and it also has vending machines.

HEMA

Besides shopping for your new home and trying hotdogs, HEMA can be pretty quiet after lunch hours, and it also has WiFi.

Columna Church

A literal church as a study spot might sound unusual, but it actually fostered many students during the Corona period and after. It has lots of empty rooms during the weekdays, and it can count as a possible spot for students in that area.

Doppio Espresso Coffee Shop

Great coffee and great sweets. Outside it can get pretty busy, but inside you can enjoy big tables and lots of charging areas. Be careful with your timing, since it closes on schedule with the commercial stores.

Chocolate Company

Close to the heart of Groningen, Grote Markt, this coffee shop is often frequented by students. Great atmosphere to do your work and projects, and during winter, it feels cozy and full of lights inside. The drinks also get fancy and warm during cold seasons.

Anne&Max

A small, almost picturesque coffee shop, not frequented by many. It has great vegan options, and it is also not far from the city center.

LUHU

A quiet, charming place that keeps the office vibe. Moves away from the busy area of the center and allows you to savor an ambient atmosphere.

Literair Cafe ‘De Graanrepubliek’

A rich atmosphere containing a large variety of books to buy or rent for reasonable prices. This place is open until pretty late, perfect for night owls who can focus better later in the day. Also great for teamwork projects.
